In his spare time, He enjoyed many different kinds of actives being involved with Bridge Vis, This was an excellent organisation and he enjoyed many outings with them, the shooting club in which he received a trophy, this was only one of the activities, he also liked working on the allotment in Maesteg , going to Porthcawl, having coffee in Wetherspoons, nothing was going to get in his way despite his visual impairments, John was always positive. He even planed a holiday and took himself to Scarborough by train meeting a lot of new friends.
John also attended Smyrna with his mum Thelma although after moving to Newcastle hill they stopped coming for a short time and went to the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Bridgend. He was a lay preacher for the Methodist circuit. He then returned to Smyrna and the Chapel became like his family, enjoying the Sunday services, and Bible study on a Thursday.
I would like to finish with some of Johns own words.
Being partially sighted has by no means proved a barrier to me; I have played an active role with Bridgend College on the students welfare committee, responsible for the disability statement, offering guidance to employers, staff and students in the use of adaptive technology. I am a highly motivated and self-disciplined person; being a good team player.
I am friendly, patient and understanding, and communicate well at all levels. With a mature approach to work. I am presentable, punctual and an excellent timekeeper, reliable and flexible. A quick learner and receptive to new methods and ideas, I am also computer literate with good keyboard skills. My interests include music, photography and travel, technology and science, I am also a lay preacher which involves research and public speaking.
